Life Transition Therapy
Navigating Life Transitions with Compassion & Expertise
Life transitions can be both challenging and transformative, reshaping our sense of self and our relationships with others.
Whether you're facing a divorce, experiencing a breakup, or stepping into the role of a new parent, it's natural to feel overwhelmed and uncertain.
At Steady Healing, we specialize in guiding individuals through these pivotal moments with empathy, support, and practical strategies. Our goal is to help you navigate these changes with resilience and a renewed sense of purpose.
Divorce Support and Healing
Divorce is a significant life event that can evoke a range of emotions—from relief and sadness to anger and confusion. Michelle is experienced in providing support through every stage of the divorce process and has personal experience as a divorced person. We focus on:
Emotional Support: We explore and develop coping skills for the difficult emotions that arise in the divorce process and after your divorce is finalized. This can occur through talk therapy focused on providing a safe confidential environment to sort out and express what you feel, while also having specialized guidance on coping skills for divorce. We also utilize EMDR therapy for divorce in helping people lower distress related to past, present, and perceived future difficulties with this life change.
Coping Strategies: Your therapist helps you explore current coping strategies that work and builds new strategies for the intense emotions and upheaval of life during divorce. This is helpful to survive the divorce process and in helping you manage coparenting interactions skillfully and intentionally.
Coparenting Strategies: We focus on ways you regulate your emotions and tolerate distress during interactions with your coparent. Your therapist equips you to intentionally manage communication with your ex-partner in a way that supports the well-being of your children and yourself.
Personal Growth: Many people ask- how did we get here? And how do I avoid this pain again? Your therapist for divorce helps you to explore and understand past relationship patterns to support healthier future connections.
Rebuilding & Moving Forward: Life has taken an unforeseen turn, and you have the ability to rebuild your sense of self and redefine your personal goals and identity post-divorce. This is hard but can be very rewarding!
Breakup Recovery:Healing After a Breakup
Breakups can be deeply painful, affecting your self-esteem and creating painful, intense emotions. Losing a romantic relationship can also be a time of reflection and making changes for a happier, healthier future. Our therapists are here to support you in:
Emotional Recovery: We support you to process grief and loss while helping you move through the stages of healing and find healthy ways to recover well.
Self-Care Practices: We focus on giving practical strategies to care for your mental and emotional health during the emotional fallout of the breakup. You can discover ways to take care of yourself and focus on your own well-being during this hard time.
Understanding Patterns: Often people wonder- what drew me to this person? What can I learn from this relationship? as a way to gain wisdom and more self-understanding from the breakup experience. We support exploring and understanding past relationship patterns to help you move forward to healthier future connections.
Building Resilience: Your therapist is committed to strengthen your ability to cope with and grow from the relationship and breakup experience.
Adjustment to Parenthood: Embracing New Roles
Becoming a parent is one of life’s most profound transitions, bringing both joy and new challenges. Our therapy services for new parents include:
Navigating Expectations: As a new parent, especially with young children- the expectations and pressures of parenthood are intense and may feel really different than what you imagined or hoped for. There can be competing expectations from family, society, and yourself. Your therapist will create a safe space to talk about your experience, and help you find clarity in your values as a parent. Each parent can clarify what is best for their specific family, and develop coping strategies for managing expectations of new parents.
Adjusting to Roles: You have taken on an entirely new role as the parent of your child, and this often changes throughout your child’s lifespan. Finding balance between your new responsibilities and your personal identity is a frequent topic of therapy for new moms and dads.
Parental Bonding: We focus on how you strengthen your bond with your baby and addressing any difficulties or mental health symptoms that affect early parenting. Postpartum depression and anxiety can create conflicting emotions around your parenting experience.
Perinatal Mood and Anxiety Disorders: Perinatal mental health conditions are the #1 complication of childbirth. Approximately 20% of people develop perinatal anxiety after delivery. 1 in 5 women may experience postpartum depression after delivery. Depressed and anxious moms can be excellent moms, and you don’t have to suffer in the way you do now. Perinatal depression, anxiety and birth trauma are treatable and help is available. Michelle has completed additional training in Perinatal Mental Health through Postpartum Support International , which has numerous online resources and free support groups to new parents.
Work-Life Balance: For parents who work outside the home, the transition to parenthood creates the need to have a new approach to finding balance between parenting responsibilities, professional roles, and personal needs. Therapy can help as you establish a supportive environment for both you and your child.
