Anxiety is the most common mental health concern in America.
Anxiety is a normal human emotion that helps give us information, motivate us to action and communicate to other people in our lives. It normally is present when we have an upcoming event, a change, or something with an uncertain outcome.
This is different than how excessive worry and fear can create suffering and get in the way of living the life you want. Anxiety can frequently coexist for someone who experienced trauma, has ADHD, is Autistic, or has substance use disorders. Some driven and successful professionals have difficulty turning off anxiety that feels like it helps push them forward. Often it doesn’t just get better on your own without treatment. Working with a specialized therapist in treating anxiety can help you gain coping strategies, reduce your vulnerability to anxiety, and relieve the anxiety.
Addressing Anxiety
Anxiety Treatment
Your therapist at Steady Healing will meet and understand when your anxiety started, what distressing symptoms you experience with it, existing coping strategies, and develop a tailored treatment plan for you. Your anxiety therapy can be in our East Dallas office or using online therapy. Using research-backed coping strategies from Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and Dialectical Behavioral Therapy, we work on developing coping skills that work for you to reduce your vulnerability to anxiety, cope with anxiety starts up, and soothe your body and mind at some of the hardest times of the day with your anxiety. This is a combination of “thinking skills” and soothing your nervous system strategies. Therapy can help with anxiety and panic attacks.
Often we will also use EMDR therapy as a part of your treatment for anxiety or panic attacks as well. It’s particularly helpful in helping the brain move out of hypervigilance or hyperarousal and into a state of rest. It has been helpful in reducing social anxiety, Generalized Anxiety Disorder, Unspecified Anxiety, or Panic Disorder. It is also helpful for anxiety that may co-occur for trauma survivors, those with ADHD or Autism, and substance use disorder.
Do I need medication for anxiety?
Our goal is to help you understand your anxiety, know how to care for yourself, and reduce or alleviate your anxiety. Sometimes medication is a necessary or helpful tool to combine with therapy. However, medication isn’t always needed for clients. You, your therapist, and/or medical provider will discuss if a combination of therapy and medication management of anxiety seems helpful.
