Meet Michelle Spurgeon
Dallas EMDR Therapist
Therapy that helps you feel more like yourself.
Many of my clients are thoughtful, capable people who feel unlike themselves after what they’ve been through. Their usual ways of coping just aren’t helping enough. They often tell me they’re:
Feeling “fine on the outside” but overwhelmed, reactive, or shut down inside
Noticing anxiety that increased after trauma, loss, or relationship hurt
Struggling to trust themselves or others the way they once did
Caught in harsh self-talk or shame connected to past experiences
Navigating grief and identity shifts after divorce or major life change
Wanting to move forward but feeling emotionally stuck
Finding faith feels complicated after trauma, abuse, or relationship loss
Frustrated that time alone hasn’t resolved symptoms
In therapy, these experiences are understood as protective responses to overwhelm — not failures.
My Approach
I offer trauma-informed counseling through traditional 50-minute therapy sessions or extended EMDR intensive sessions designed to support deeper healing and momentum. I also host therapy groups for individuals recovering from trauma, navigating divorce, and for therapists processing their own divorce experiences. I work often with other therapists as they seek therapeutic support for themselves.
My work integrates EMDR therapy, trauma therapy focused on your brain and body, and compassionate exploration of life transitions. Clients often share that therapy with me feels steady, collaborative, and deeply respectful of their pace.
This practice is safe for clients from different cultures, faith backgrounds, or who are part of the LGBTQ+ community.
I offer a therapy space where both your mental health and spiritual journey (whether a part of church, deconstructing, or no longer religious) are respected. Many clients find their faith to be a meaningful resource in healing — while also noticing that trauma, abuse, or divorce can bring up questions, grief, or concerns. Steady Healing holds space for both.
I’m so glad you’re here. Let’s take care of you.
Working with Michelle is a good fit if...
You want to feel less numb or anxious.
You want to do serious work, with some humor sprinkled in.
You’re ready to deal with what is holding you back, feel more like yourself again, and move forward.
You want to schedule extended therapy sessions to make progress towards your goals
What EMDR therapy is like with me
I offer trauma-informed therapy for adults who want more than symptom management. Rather than weekly sessions spent talking about what happened, our work focuses on helping your body settle and your mind heal. I first offer coping strategies that reduce the symptoms that bother you most and help you understand what you’re experiencing.
Then often we work towards deep healing with EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitization & Reprocessing) therapy. This approach helps the brain and body process distressing experiences, life changes, or anxiety—so triggers lose their intensity and emotional responses begin to shift. I believe therapy works best when you understand the why behind the work, feel respected in your autonomy, and move at a pace that fits your readiness.
I work in weekly sessions with EMDR therapy and offer longer sessions for those motivated to feel relief faster through EMDR intensives.
With EMDR many clients experience:
→Reduced anxiety and emotional reactivity
→A greater sense of calm and safety in their body
→More presence and ease in relationships
→Feeling more like their true self
→Relief from shame, feeling on-guard, and feeling emotionally overwhelmed

I received my Bachelor of Arts in Communication & minor in religion from McMurry University, a United Methodist university. I earned my Masters in Social Work from University of Texas at Arlington with a focus on direct practice.

After college I served a year in New Zealand with local non-profits and churches. There I discovered my desire to foster growth for those trying to heal from past experiences and discover their way forward. Volunteering alongside skilled social workers inspired me to go back for my MSW degree.
For over 10 years, I worked for New Friends New Life providing program leadership, individual and group therapy, and case management services to women healing from sex trafficking or sexual exploitation.
I then worked in Dallas therapy group practices before opening Steady Healing in 2023.
Michelle Outside the Office
I grew up in East Texas, and I moved to Dallas in 2008 to pursue my graduate degree. I am an ENFP and enneagram 7 which helps bring joy in my day-to-day even when working with serious things. I believe in helping clients find their way back to a life they enjoy living.
When not in session or supporting new EMDR therapists- I enjoy playing outside with my two sons, snuggling them on the couch, or enjoying good conversation and food with friends. I can get lost in reading a predictable feel-good novel. For the metal health boost- I enjoy morning jogs while listening to therapy-business podcasts or good music. I will always take your recommendations for funny shows to stream, but not your dark dramas or thrillers please.
